OHIO RELIGIOUS COALITION FOR REPRODUCTIVE CHOICE (Ohio RCRC)
FAITH AND CHOICES CURRICULUM
The Ohio Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (Ohio RCRC) is a state affiliate of the national Religious Coalition. RCRC is an organization established as a coalition of Christian, Jewish and other religious organizations that believe a woman should have the freedom to make reproductive choices according to her own religious and moral beliefs. WHAT:
Faith and Choices is a curriculum developed by the RCRC to help congregations discuss issues related to reproductive choice. It is designed as three to four one-hour long sessions, or any combination thereof, that can be incorporated into an on-going adult education program. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss:
- Their knowledge about and views on reproductive choice.
- Their denomination’s position on abortion, choice and religious liberty.
- Youth and their sexual decisions.
- Becoming pro-active about sex education and reproductive freedom.
WHO:
- Congregations from seven member denominations of the RCRC: Episcopal, Presbyterian USA, United Methodist, and Unitarian Universalist Churches, United Church of Christ, and Reform and Conservative Judaism
- 2 (or more) facilitators from each congregation to lead Faith and Choices courses (or workshops)
- Congregation members participating in courses
- Ohio RCRC Director and Faith and Choices Program Director to train and support leaders and congregations throughout courses and implementation of action plans
WHERE:
WHEN:
- Summer/Fall:
- Ohio RCRC reaches out to congregations and trains facilitators from interested congregations
- Ohio RCRC provides curriculum and kits to facilitators
- Facilitators schedule and advertise Faith and Choices courses within their churches and synagogues and begin registration of participants
- Fall:
- Facilitators conduct courses in churches or synagogues
- Facilitators and participants develop and begin implementation of action plans that reflect interests and resources of each congregation
- Facilitators and participants receive support from Ohio RCRC Director and Faith and Choices Program Director for action plans
- Facilitators provide feedback to Ohio RCRC about strengths and weaknesses of curriculum
