Ohio RCRC BoardÕs Recommendations

for Nominating Committee and Board members

Board Meeting—March, 2008

(Informed by Conference call with Barbara Kavadias, RCRC Field Services)

 

Both the new Board and the Nominating Committee members should be diverse in the following ways:

  1. Religious diversity—pro-choice and spiritual, as well as denominations
  2. Geographic diversity
  3. Ethnic and racial diversity
  4. Socio-economic diversity
  5. Gender and sexual orientation diversity
  6. Range of ages.  Assure youth representation
  7. Variety of careers and skills

 

To attain these goals, the Board suggested that the Nominating Committee recruit Board members from groups with allied interests, such as

¤       Health

o      WomenÕs health groups, ex. National Black WomenÕs Health Imperative

o      AIDS organizations, ex. Cleveland AIDS Task Force

o      Young peopleÕs organizations

¤       Domestic violence rescue groups, ex. Choices

¤       LGBT organizations, ex. Equality Ohio

¤       African-American groups

¤       Poverty issue organizations, concern with jobs, wage parity for women

¤       Pro-choice orgs, ex. Planned Parenthood

¤       OtherÉ

 

Socio-economic diversity: draw from:

¤       major donors

¤       organizations which contribute to pro-choice causes

¤       organizations concerned with poverty issues, such as job creation; wage parity

¤       OtherÉ..

 

Career and skills diversity: Look for expertise in:

¤       Technology, esp. IT technology

¤       Accounting and money management

¤       Graphics, artists

¤       Fundraising

¤       Organizing events

¤       OthersÉ..
